Calling Bloggers Everywhere!

So I promised a fashion post for today. And I am going to deliver, but I am also going to pose a request from all of you.

So earlier this year, I was talking to my friend Kelley about the trend, denim shirts. I wasn't completely sold on them. But now that I see them more, I kinda want one. As fall is coming I'm totally digging the idea of a light wash with a dark pair of skinny jeans!

Such as these...

Here's the thing, I don't want to spend a ton on a shirt that will probably be out of style by the end of the winter. So this is where all of you come in. I would love to find one of these gems but I would really like to spend about $20.

So if any of you come across a light-wash denim shirt that's inexpensive, let me know!

Hope you all had a great Wednesday!

Tuesday Blahs

Andrew is home so that means super excitement all around for this lady! But it's also a Tuesday. A Tuesday in which I am surviving off of about 6 hours of sleep from the past two nights. It's incredibly painful to be sitting here at work trying to focus on everything I need to accomplish this week when it fels like there are sandbags attached to my eyelids.

I have also been a naughty blogger and have neglected to post for a couple of days. I would really like to get back to some fashion posts here soon as well. The best laid plans...

Yesterday was good though. Since Andrew got back on Sunday he had yesterday off. So we took it easy. Went and had breakfast and A.C. Peterson in West Hartford, headed to the mall to get a gift for the cutest little one-year-old we know and then caught up on some of the shows that have been on our DVR while Andrew was away. All of this was done before heading to the ESPN Company Picnic at Lake Compounce!
The Entrance to the Park was decorated with X-Games Stuff

It was Steve Bishop's first day and we celebrated with beer!
I wanted Funnel Cake, so the boys waited in line while I sat and took pictures of them.
It was a fun night but with no sleep, Tuesday was pretty rough. So here is what I am setting as a goal for myself for the rest of the week:
1. Sleep thru the night.
2. Get at least 3 more blog posts out this week, two of those being fashion related
3. Doing some serious organizing as I go into the Fall. Heading to Target to purchase a new planner!

Thanks for putting up with this rando post!

Sunday Social

Sunday Social
1. What is the first website you log on to each day?
Twitter. It's the first app I click when I wake up in the morning. It used to be Facebook but now all I really use Facebook for is the blog!

2. Give us some funny websites you visit that we need to know about
Andrew got me started on cracked.com. It's hit or miss with the funny articles but it's always interesting. If I want stupid laughs I head over to icanhas.cheezburger.com. Gotta love funny animal photos!

3. Pinterest or Facebook? Why?
I use these both for completely different things! I think I still prefer Facebook of Pintrest. Pintrest always gets me with the recipes and crafts; so dangerous!!!

4. Twitter or Instagram? Why?
These two really go hand-in-hand so this is a difficult one. I think Twitter though if I HAVE to choose. I love the creativity that I can use on Instagram, but without Twitter Instagram would be nothing!

5. Favorite youtube video...post it!
I think this girl is so inspirational. I have struggled with my skin (not to this extreme but still) most of my life. But then I see this young woman put it all out there on the line to show women who have skin issues that they don't have to hide behind their blemishes. It's just cool!

6. Biggest online pet peeve?
When people get all "holier than thou" on Facebook. I know that anyone can say just about anything but it gets a little monotonous after a while.

Well, I hope you have all had a fabulous weekend! Andrew comes home tonight so I am SUPER excited!

Pretty Lucky

So, I'm a pretty lucky woman. I just happened to be married to an absolutely amazing man. I may be biased but I don't care.
Yea, that's right!

But, if you have been following our other blog, Two Tickets For..., you know that he has been gone for a week and a half! And he won't get back till this Sunday!

Andrew works for ESPN here in Bristol, CT. For two weeks he has been in Williamsport, PA for the Little League World Series. He's been having so much fun working on some really cool promos and teases. Check one of them out!

2012 Little League World Series- Made for and Owned By ESPN

He's got a pretty sweet job. I am so proud of all the work he does. But, I am SO ready for him to come home. 4 More Days!

I know this post sounded a little LOT like a gush-post, but I think that it was necessary to dedicate a post to my best friend. Happy Wednesday evening to you all!

New Outfits for Fall!

It's that time of the year! School is just around the corner, not for me of course but that doesn't mean I can't Fall clothes shop! AND as an added bonus...it's sales taxt free week! That means that the price on the ticket is the price I pay. It's very exciting.

So yesterday I did a little shopping at one of my favorite places, Marshalls, and I picked up a couple of fun pieces that will transition into Fall beautifully!

This is my Charlotte York Look for the Fall.  What do you all think of the double peplum?

This silk green blazer with navy blue dots was on clearance.  It was too cool of a piece for me to pass up!
This is the "York Look" on. I love the look but this top would look great with a pair of skinny jeans too!

This is what the blazer looks like on belted.
So even though I'm not about to start school, I did have fun "school shopping." Was almost tempted to buy school supplies! Maybe the next trip...

Savvy Shopping

I love accessories. We've talked about this before, so this is nothing new to any of you.

I also LOVE a good deal. Being young and married, there's not a whole lot of extra to go shopping. So I stick to finding great clothes finds at consignment stores and TJMaxx and Marshals are very dangerous places for me to go visit.

So recently, I have been feeling the need to jewelry shop. I follow a couple of really great jewelry places on Instagram, but two of my favorites are BridierBaubles.com and LoveAlwaysjewels.bigcartel.com. While I was jewel searching on these sites, I came across these two pieces...

A little hard to see but it's called the Boca Grande

Don't ask me why but I LOVE the claw bracelet
Now, together these two pieces come out to be about $45. Not too bad, I'll admit, but when you're trying to save every little bit helps. So  I decided to do something I've never done before...shop on eBay.

I did a little searching and I found the exact same pieces for a fraction of the price! I found the bracelet for $2.75 and the necklace for $17.99. While it made me a little nervous to shop on eBay, I'm so glad that I did.

I haven't received the them yet, I did just order them on Tuesday, but as soon as I do I'm excited to show off what this savvy shopper found!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Happy Shopping!

Guest Post: The Importance of Taking Time for My Marriage

In case you missed it over at Life After, I did a guest post while she's away on her and John's honeymoon!...

Hello Kayla's readers! Isn't she fabulous!? And that Jack! He's just the cutest fella in the world!

My name is Sarah and while Kay and John are off on their honeymoon, I volunteered to do a guest post to give the newlywed perspective of taking time for relationships and marriages.

My husband, Andrew, and I have been married for a year.

He's really just the best!
We don't have any kids yet, so both of us are pretty focused on our jobs right now and where those might take us in the future.

We love the movies. We love everything about them and so we blog about them! Our movie review blog is one of our favorite things to do together, but it does feel more like a job. Plus, movies require you to be silent. So we make time for each other in a number of different ways.

We make it an important part of our day to sit and look at each other and ask about each other's day. Just asking this simple little question has helped keep the lines of communication open. It is so easy to just come home from work, exhausted, and just shut off for the night. Being married doesn't allow you to have that luxury every day.

We also like to go out to dinner, and have "date nights." Sometimes this includes a movie to add to our ever-growing blog, but it always includes a phone-free zone at dinner. We have some of our best talks over dinner. We dream a little about our future, where we want to see ourselves in five years, or just enjoy our very comfortable silence. We take the random road trip every once in a while, too, so that's another great opportunity to just sit and chat or jam out to the music. Strangely enough, we still enjoy each other's company!

Taking time for your relationship is so important. We have found that communicating is the key to keeping us on the same page. So to wrap it up, I'm going to share with you some pictures of our adventures!

Hitting the road for our Honeymoon to Vermont!
Visiting Rhode Island in the fog.
Celebrating at Kay and John's Wedding
1st Christmas in the Big Apple
Connecticut Hot Dog Tour for Andrew's 25th
Thanks for joining me today and be sure to check out my blog, Fashion on the Fly!

Slow Roasted Salmon with Herbs

Like I said yesterday, I am going to be trying out some new recipes this week and tonight was the first one! I tried the Slow Roasted Salmon with Herbs from Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl Dish. And it. Was. DELISH!

Of course, I took pictures as I was cooking this dish this evening and it was so unbelievably simple to make.
Thinly Slice a Peeled Idaho Potato

Make one layer in a casserole dish. Brush with EVOO and sprinkle with S & P

While the potatoes are in the oven for 15 mins, mix together these ingredients in a dressing and set aside.
Salt and pepper a salmon steak

Pull the potatoes out of the oven, lower the temp and place salmon on top. Stick back in the oven for 20 mins.

As soon as the salmon is cooked pour on the dressing and serve. I ate mine with a couple of fresh tomato slices and sauteed squash straight from our garden.

I may have used a little more dressing than it called for, but it was just so good! Needless to say, my plate was cleaned. Such an easy recipe. Too bad I won't get Andrew to try it...his loss!

While the Husband is Away...

...This girl is gunna eat. Now, I love cooking for my husband even though he has a limited palate.

That's ok, we're working on it! When he says he doesn't like something, it usually means he hasn't tried it before. He went from "not liking feta" to having it in his eggs EVERY time. He went from only eating ground beef tacos and  burgers to loving ground turkey tacos and tolerating ground turkey burgers. The one thing that I can't seem to quite get him on board with is seafood. He has tried salmon, shrimp and crab cakes but just hasn't fallen in love with the idea. About the only sea food I can consistently get him to eat is tuna sandwiches and melts.
The Salmon of mine that he tried at Red's in Rockford
So, while he is away, I can cook and eat the things that he does not like. This week I am excited to try some new recipes that I have been wanting to try for a while.
One of my go-two recipe books for simple healthy meals
A great cook book I received from my Mom for one of my Bridal Showers
So as this week and next progress, I will be posting about all my new cooking ventures, mixed in with fashion of course. But let's be honest, I am really getting sick of summer clothes! I've already started my Fall wardrobe. Excite!

Friday Letters

Photobucket

This is the first time that I am doing this link up, but I have always enjoyed reading other's Friday Letters. So, here it goes!

Dear Blog: I apologize for neglecting you this past week. But I will have some time coming up these next couple of weeks, so I will be sure to work on you more. I am also still trying to figure out where you are going.

Dear Andrew: I am really going to miss you these next couple of weeks. I know you are going to have so much fun at Little League World Series, but having you away for that long is really going to suck. And then to leave only two weeks later for a wedding in Michigan. I wish that I could go with you.

Dear Summer: I hate to say it, but I'm a little over you. This heat and humidity is starting to get unbearable!

Dear Fall: I can't wait for you to get here! And here's why: Fall shows come back, temperatures drop(hopefully), work starts to slow down, we get closer to our Disney trip, NYC trips, and Fall color tours to Rhode Island. Exciting, right?

Dear Other Bloggers: I have really have enjoyed getting to know some of you! This is such a cool community of men and women and I am so excited to get to know all of you better!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Thursday Randoms

I've been a bad blogger. I realize that. It has been several days since I posted and for that, I apologize.

This has been a wild and crazy week. Andrew and I celebrated our 1st Anniversary on Monday.
Our take on that Pintrest Anniversary Photo idea.
We've seen a rapid increase in our movie review blog's activity; which is awesome but that means that my little blog here has gone by the wayside.

I have discovered some fun things though that are not necessarily new but I have found to be super awesome.

The first is: the sock bun. This is not a new thing. But this morning it was new to me! So I grabbed one of Andrew's old ratty socks and voila!
I am pretty excited about this. It solves all bad hair days!

It's also getting to be that time of the year when I get the itch to hit the malls and consignment stores to start beefing up my fall wardrobe! Even though it's 84 degrees outside, I'm half tempted to grab some skinny jeans and a chunky sweater!

Vogue has just come out with their September Issue (typically the largest issue, this year, it's about double the usual Sept. Issue) and it's massively stocked with Fall Must-Haves.  One thing I noticed were that there are a lot of shirts and dresses around knee to mid-calf length.
vogue.com
I am in LOVE with all the girly looks that are going to translate into Fall! I think that because of the more feminine looks that are popping up, that stockings and pantyhose might also make a reappearance this Fall. Exciting!

Look for at least one more Fall-filled post as we get closer to September!

Happy Thursday and Happy Shopping!

Sunday Social

Sunday Social

I LOVE Fall! So when this Sunday Social came along, it was a must for me!

1. What is your favorite Fall activity?

GOING to football games. Not watching them on television, but going to them.

2. Do you follow a football team? if so which one and why?

I don't follow one team in particular, but I grew up watching Virginia Tech football, so I can always count on an update from my parents every week. Andrew also loves football so The Detroit Lions, New England Patriots or University of Michigan Wolverines can always be found on our television.

3. What is something fun about Fall in your area?

The color tours! The leaves out here on the East Coast get so beautiful in the Fall, so we frequently take little trips over to Rhode Island or just even locally to check out the colors.

4. Fav Fall outfit staples?

Jeans and over sized sweaters. Sweaters are a staple in my closet. Layering is the way to go in the Fall. I also love a good pair of mittens for those chilly nights.
Go-To outfit

Topshop knit top / Patagonia v neck shirt / Skinny jeans, $135 / Maison Martin Margiela shoes / Mulberry bag, $1,080 / Pieces pearl jewelry / LORD & TAYLOR gold jewelry / Ray-Ban Folding Wayfarer Sunglasses, $220
Relaxing Weekend

NIKE red sweater / Balmain distressed jeans / Maison Martin Margiela stacked heel / Carolee gold pearl earrings / Miss Selfridge gold bangle / Jamie Joseph rainbow moonstone ring

Fun jackets and shoes!
NYC Winter

Agent Ninetynine long tank top, $16 / TothBori military jacket, $220 / J Brand skinny jeans / High heels / Military watch / Irene Neuwirth diamond earrings

5. Thing you are looking forward to most about this coming Fall season?

The smell. There is always a definite smell in the air when fall is starting to arrive and I love it.
The cider and donuts at apple orchards.
Wearing my moccasins around the house.
Snugglling up with a good book and a cup of hot cider.
This is my favorite season, can you tell?

6. Favorite Fall holiday? Traditions?

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. This past year was the first year that I did Thanksgiving dinner and while it all didn't turn out exactly right, it was satisfying to accomplish this iconic meal! Fall traditions involve going to cider mills. Going into NYC is awesome! There is something about being in a big city in the Fall. There is just that feeling of whimsy.

I can't wait fo Fall to get here! I hope everyone's Fall is amazing!

Olympics Inspried Fashion

So unless you have been living under a rock for the past week, you are well aware that the Olympics are in full swing.

With the USA curently leading the medal count with 31 (I'm sure this will change by the time I post this), there is American pride everywhere!

Even if you're not in London celebrating, there is a stylish way that you can show your red, white and blue pride without going overboard.
And THIS is overboard (strangecosmos.com)
Instead go for something a little more subdued

Olympic Chic 1

BKE v neck shirt / H&M jacket, $47 / J Brand denim skinny jeans / BCBG Max Azria sparkly flat / Alexander McQueen crystal handbag, $2,020 / Juliet & Company tahitian pearl earrings / Pearl bangle

For a little more outright American Olympic pride, try something like this...

Olympics Chic 2

Wildfox Couture knit top / Paige Denim short shorts, $145 / TOMS shoes / Michael Kors handbag / Hat / Ray-Ban wayfarer sunglasses
Don't go overboard when it comes to cheering for your team! Keep it simple while still showing of your pride!
